  • McKinney appoints Gene Rardin to Special Education Task Force

    July 22, 2008

House Minority Leader Dennis McKinney, Greensburg, announced the appointment of Rep. Gene Rardin, Overland Park, to the Special Education Funding Task Force.

“All Kansas schoolchildren deserve access to high quality education,” said House Minority Leader Dennis McKinney, Greensburg. “As a former educator, Rep. Rardin is extremely qualified to review the special education funding formula and ensure that it provides school districts with adequate resources to help students with additional needs.”

Medicaid funding previously allotted to special education programs in Kansas public schools will decline by $23 million in 2009. The 11-member Special Education Task Force was created as part of Senate Bill 620 in an effort to ensure students with higher needs continue to receive the services required for them to succeed in school.

Prior to his service in the Kansas Legislature, Rardin’s diverse professional background included time as a project engineer for Kansas City Power & Light, a telecommunications manager, a teacher and a small business owner. He received an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the University of Kansas and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Missouri in Kansas City.

Rardin represents the 16th House District, which includes portions of Overland Park and Lenexa. He serves on the House committees on Economic Development and Tourism, Transportation and Taxation, as well as the House Select Committee on Energy and Environment for the Future.
