Legislative

During these last two years, Gene has voted for over $150 million in targeted tax cuts for businesses, seniors and families, insisted on continuing the legislatures’ support for quality public education and voted in favor of clean energy economic development.

Gene has also reached across the aisle to co-sponsor important legislation to protect consumers from identity theft, make sure Kansas's active duty servicemembers are protected from mortgage foreclosures and promote transparency in pharmaceutical marketing activities to hold drug costs down.

During these last two years, Gene has also taken the time to keep constituents informed with frequent legislative briefings, town hall meetings, and talking to thousands of people in old fashioned door-to-door visits.

First elected to the Legislature in 2006, Rardin serves on the House committees on Economic Development and Tourism, Transportation and Taxation. In 2008, Rardin also served on the House Select Committee on Energy and Environment for the Future, which explored ways to increase energy investments and production in Kansas. He offers a thorough understanding of complicated issues surrounding energy policy.

In addition to his work with Kansas energy policy, Rardin will utilize his experience as a public school teacher by serving on the Special Education Funding Task Force. This task force will study the existing formula for funding special education and related services, including Medicaid and replacement state aid.
